IBM Aptiva 2176-442 pc.
General info
The IBM Aptiva personal computer was introduced in September 1994 as the replacement for the IBM PS/1. The first Aptiva models are based on the Intel 80486 CPU with later models using the Pentium and AMD CPUs. All systems were developed in-house except for the later E series which was developed by Acer. The last system was withdrawn in May 2001 without direct replacement when IBM decided to exit the home market.
Most Aptiva models include a modem and a standby/hibernation feature called "Rapid Resume". Sound and modem functionality is provided on M, A, C and S models by an IBM Mwave adapter. The Mwave adaptor had multiple compatibility and performance issues and was eventually replaced by standard modems and sound cards.

About this specific offer
This IBM Aptiva is a machine type 2176 (i.e. tower) and the model number 442 refers to the original configuration of an Intel Pentium 133 MHz, 14 MB RAM, 2 GB hard disk and Mwave sound card.

The pc was manufactured in January 1997, in the U.K. This specific pc however is upgraded with the fastest officially supported CPU, large cache memory, much more RAM, a larger hard disk, a super fast dedicated 3dfx graphics card and a replaced sound card.

It is a refurbished pc. In this case that means it's clean, it is equipped with a new clock battery and a new power supply fan (from BeQuiet).

This awesome Pentium pc has the ideal basis to serve as a DOS game computer. It's a durable metal mini tower model on a large foot with many expansion slots and sockets. Behind the slide door on the front you can find the additional drives. The pc can be connected to a flatscreen VGA monitor and a regular PS/2 mouse and keyboard can be used. It also has a switchable power supply, so it can operate in various regions, including Europe and the United States. Last but not least, the computer stands on a large foot which gives it extra stability.

Pre-installed are Windows 95 OSR 2.5 (English), Word 97, many other useful programs, some games and all matching drivers. Autoexec.bat and config.sys are edited for optimal performance.
